Some drywall contractors have been known to use substandard panels to increase their profit margin, even though this might affect their clients' lives. For example, they might prefer to use a regular board in fire risk areas such as the garage and the kitchen even though they have billed their clients for type X boards. As a layperson, it becomes almost impossible for you to know whether the right type of board has been used or not.

What is Drywall?
This is a term used to referrer to panels made of calcium sulfate dehydrate. It is sometimes known as plasterboard, gypsum panels, or sheetrock. Gypsum is a naturally occurring mineral found in more than 85 countries around the world. Plasterboard is used in the construction industry to create ceilings, walls, arches, eaves, and other architectural designs.
Gypsum has several advantages. For example, depending on the make, some boards protect your home from fire. For example, Type X boards have a fire rating of more than 60 minutes. This means, if a fire were to break out at your home, you would have 60 minutes to put it out before it spreads to other areas.
Other advantages include soundproofing capabilities, which comes in handy if you live near a busy market or a highway. Other gypsum panels protect your home from water and mold damage. This is because they are made from unique absorption properties that turn the board into a gooey paste when immersed in water for an extended period.
Mold is a type of fungi that grows in humid areas such as the bathroom and kitchen. Mold is black or white and poses health risks to children and older adults. For example, if you do not use a mold-proof gypsum board, you risk having a stuffy nose, itchy eyes, or skin irritation. If you are asthmatic, then the reactions can be more severe.

There are two main types of wall holes that require repair; those caused by doorknobs and those caused by popping nails.
Repairing Holes Caused By Door Knobs
Doorknobs are the biggest culprits when it comes to creating wall holes. In most cases, this problem is more prone where you have little children in the house. There are two ways in which doorknob damage can be repaired.
If the hole is less than 6 inches wide, it is covered with a drywall patch, and a joint compound is then applied over the patch. The area is then sand and painted to give it a seamless look. When the hole is more than 6 inches wide, we prefer to replace the entire section instead.
To ensure that this problem does not occur again in the future, we can install a wall guard in the damaged area. This is a hard round disk that prevents the doorknob from damaging the wall. Other alternatives include using a hinge doorstop and a basic hydraulic system. The hydraulic system makes it harder for the door to open hence slowing the speed at which it can crash into the wall.

Repairing Medium Holes
Sometimes, using a drywall patch may not be as effective as it should be. It is for this reason why it is advisable to repair the hole using another plasterboard piece. We take a large board and cut it into a square shape that is at least 2 inches wider than the damaged section. We then use a pencil to draw a perfect square outline on the wall and then use a drywall saw to cut out the traced area.
Keep in mind that the traced out area must be smaller than the cut plasterboard. After applying a joint compound on the board, we fix it and use two coats of compound.

Repairing a Corner Bead
A corner bead is an area in which two drywall sections meet to form a corner. This is the most tricky part to repair; thus, it requires exemplary drywall skills to pull through. Though every drywaller has their way of doing things, we prefer to use a conservative approach. We vertically cut the damaged area on the top and bottom parts of the bead. A utility knife is then used to cut the plasterboard vertically to remove fragments of the damaged board. We will then measure and cut a new corner bead and attach it using a manufacturer's recommended adhesive.
Commercial Drywall Services
When vetting commercial drywall contractors, there are specific kits or tools that they must have. One of these kits is a drywall repair kit. A plasterboard repair kit is a kit designed to patch minor dents and holes. There are two types of kits available in the market:
Whatever the type of kit used, they must include the following tools:
|
Some of the tools that you should expect a drywall contractor to have are:
A Mud Pan: This tool is used to store gypsum compound and make the application process very easy
|
Cordless Drill: A cordless drill is used to load up screws on the wall automatically.
|
Drywall T-Square: The tool enables the contractor to make straight cuts on the wall. It has a T-shape for cutting corners.
|
A Utility Knife: The best contractor is one who has a utility knife that uses interchangeable blades. This will make it easy to cut different gypsum boards such as Type X boards and moisture resistant boards.
|
Drywall Knife: This is an essential tool for a drywaller. Without this tool, it would be impossible to apply mud across seams and joints. It is made of either metal or plastic and comes in varying sizes, such as 6 – 12 inches.
|
A Pole Sander: A pole sander is used to sand hard to reach areas in the ceiling. It is much more efficient when compared to a sanding block, especially when sanding a large area.
|
A Dust Mask: A dust mask is used to protect the wearer from gypsum air particles that can cause respiratory infections.
|
Sanding Block: This is sandpaper wrapped up in a rectangular sponge. It has an abrasive grit and is used to smooth out hard to reach areas.

Commercial Framing Services
When it comes to the construction industry, framing uses steel or wooden components to form a structure. It is this structure that holds drywall and other types of finishing in place.
Framing Services
We specialize in installing two framing systems:
- Wood frames
- Steel frames
Steel Frames
Steel is mostly used in large commercial projects because of its ease of use and affordability. Thanks to technological development, steel frames are much cheaper than wood frames. However, this will depend on the location. Some of the designs used for steel frames include Z-shapes, Channels, Tee shapes, and H shapes. So what makes steel a suitable framing material:

Some disadvantages make contractors prefer wooden frames to steel frames. These are:
- Steel frames require supporting structures such as drywall and sheathing, and insulation. This increases the construction time as well as the final cost
- Homes made from steel require heat insulation because steel is a good conductor of heat
- Unlike wood, it is challenging to cut steel into small pieces because it is not flexible to work with
Wood Frames
Though steel is considered an eco-friendly system, it is undeniable that wood frames are more eco friendly. Wood frames are made from natural material and do not release toxic chemicals to the environment. When using wooden frames, keep in mind that they should be treated for termites.

Blown-In Insulation
Blown-in insulation is preferred because it makes a property more energy-efficient and prevents cool air from escaping during summer and warm air from escaping during winter. Blown-in insulation is a material made from non-toxic fiberglass mineral wool. It is applied by using a blower hose until an even coating is achieved. |
Air Sealing
Air sealing uses an acrylic –latex caulk to seal identified air holes in the house. The holes can either be around the attic or crawlspace. This is a difficult job that requires to be done by only qualified personal. |
Sound Proofing Services
Do you run a hospital? A school, or is the sound in your home just driving you mad? If this is the case, then you need to think about soundproofing. Soundproofing is done to block unwanted noise from either leaving or entering your property. Before we soundproof your property, we try first to understand the type of sound you require to be blocked. This will help us know the kind of soundproofing service to offer.
There are two ways in which sound can be blocked. These are:
- Using a sound-absorbing material
- Using a sound blocking material
A sound-absorbing material soaks up sound vibrations ensuring they do not bounce off again. On the other hand, a sound blocking material prevents sound energy from passing through it.
The two most popular soundproofing material we install are:
- Drywall
- Acoustic tiles
