Overall, hiring a residential drywall contractor can help you achieve a smooth, seamless finish in your home, whether you're completing a renovation project or need repairs to existing drywall.

Drywall Repair Services
Our residential services are categorized into many things including drywall installation and repair. Our drywall repair services in Burnaby, BC are geared towards patching holes in the walls and ceilings from renovations or accidental damages, fixing water damaged drywall, and various other repairs. All of our services will include some form of drywall installation work, unless you would like to hire us specifically for taping, mudding and sanding. Our finishing services also include adding textured drywall and painting.

There are two common types of wall holes that require repair; those caused by doorknobs and those caused by popping nails. However, it's not uncommon to have accidental damage from moving furniture around or from changing various types of fixtures around your home. We also help our customers in bathroom and kitchen renovations such as fixing drywall gaps around plumbing pipes.

Repairing Small Holes

Repairing small holes in drywall is important for several reasons. First and foremost, it helps to maintain the appearance and functionality of the wall. Even a small hole can be unsightly and can detract from the overall look of the room. Additionally, small holes can become bigger over time if left unrepaired, which can lead to more significant damage and higher repair costs.

Repairing small holes in drywall is also important for the structural integrity of the wall. While a small hole may not seem like a big deal, it can weaken the overall structure of the wall if left unfixed. This can potentially lead to more serious problems down the line. Another reason to repair small holes in drywall is to prevent pests and other unwanted creatures from entering the wall cavity. Small holes can provide an entry point for insects, rodents, and other animals, which can cause damage to the wall and create a potential health hazard.

In addition to these practical reasons, repairing small holes in drywall can also improve the value of your home. A well-maintained and attractive interior is an important selling point for potential buyers, and small holes in the walls can be a major turnoff. Overall, while small holes in drywall may seem like a minor issue, it's important to address them promptly to prevent further damage and maintain the integrity and appearance of your home.

If the hole is less than 6 inches wide we consider this a small hole repair, it is covered with a drywall patch, and a joint compound is then applied over the patch. The area is then sanded and painted to give it a seamless look. When the hole is more than 6 inches wide, we refer to this as a medium sized hole and in the case of larger drywall holes from substantial damage we may replace the entire section instead.

If it was caused by a door handle, to ensure that this problem does not occur again in the future, we can install a wall guard over the previously damaged area. This is a hard round disk that prevents the doorknob from damaging the wall. Other alternatives include using a hinge doorstop or a door stopper placed on the baseboard of the wall at risk. As a side note: In a commercial application we often recommend a hydraulic system which makes it harder for the door to open hence slowing the speed at which it can crash into the wall. This is also helpful in preventing doors you want to stay closed from remaining open.

When having new plumbing installed or updating electrical fixtures we can repair the gaps that will have been created during the renovations. These are easy fixes that our team is well-equipped to handle. Reach out to our estimators if you have questions regarding the size of your drywall repairs.

Repairing Medium and Large Holes

Sometimes, using a drywall patch may not be as effective as it should be. It is for this reason we will sometimes recommend the replacement of a whole section of drywall board. We take a large board and cut it into a square shape that is at least 2 inches wider than the damaged section. We then measure and draw the outline on the wall before then using a drywall saw to cut out the traced area. We are a drywall company that believes in measuring twice and cutting once. Every repair is handled with care as not to damage any other areas nearby. After installing the replacement board we will tape, mud, sand and paint the wall back to its original state and leave it looking new.

Repairing a Corner Bead

A corner bead is an area in which two drywall sections meet to form a corner. This is the most tricky part to repair; thus, it requires exemplary drywall skills to properly complete a smooth finish. Though every drywaller has their way of doing things, we prefer to use a conservative approach. We vertically cut the damaged area on the top and bottom parts of the bead. A utility knife is then used to cut the plasterboard vertically to remove fragments of the damaged board. We will then measure and cut a new corner bead and attach it using a manufacturer's recommended adhesive. Inward corner damage is more uncommon than the protruding corners.

We Repair Water Damaged Drywall

When drywall gets wet, it can become damaged and compromised, leading to a variety of issues that require repair or replacement. Here are some of the problems that can occur when drywall gets wet and why a professional drywall contractor like us can help you replace and repair it:

When vetting commercial drywall contractors, there are specific kits and tools that they must have. One of these kits is a drywall repair kit. A plasterboard repair kit is a kit designed to patch minor dents and holes.

What is Drywall?

This is a term used to referrer to panels made of calcium sulfate dehydrate. It is sometimes known as plasterboard, gypsum panels, or sheetrock. Gypsum is a naturally occurring mineral found in more than 85 countries around the world. It is a powdery like substance that is packed down into hard boards that are glued together between a paper like material. Plasterboard is used in the construction industry to create ceilings, walls, arches, and other architectural designs. Drywall is a versatile medium that can be used to cover your walls and ceilings regardless of design.

Drywall boards have several advantages. For example, depending on the style, some boards add protection to your home with increased fire-resistance. For example, Type X or Type C boards have a fire rating of 60 minutes depending on the size. This means, if a fire were to break out at your home, you could have an additional 60 minutes to put it out before it spreads to other areas.

Other advantages include soundproofing capabilities, which comes in handy if you live near a busy market or a highway. This also includes added sound proofing between floors and rooms within your home. Other drywall panels can help protect your home from water and mold damage. Depending on the rating and style chosen. They are made from materials that have high absorption properties that turn the board into a gooey paste when exposed to water for an extended period of time. Water damage can also affect the structural stability of your walls. Typically if your drywall is wet, so is your insulation and possibly your wood framing. The longer you wait to repair your drywall the cost will rise.

Mold is a type of fungal growth that spreads easily in humid areas such as the bathroom and kitchen. It is also common to find mold where water damage has occurred. If you think you've have a potential area in your home that could have water damaged drywall we recommend getting this looked at immediately. Mold can be black, green or white and poses health risks to all. For example, if you do not use a mold-resistant gypsum board, you risk having a stuffy nose, itchy eyes, or skin irritation. If you are asthmatic or have other health concerns, then the reactions can be more severe.

Custom Drywall Concepts
Gypsum boards are versatile because they can accommodate any architectural design, concept, and theme. For example, you can have a Jurassic park gypsum theme installed in your child's room to teach them about history. Other ideas include a custom desk built into your wall, a unique bar with added LED lighting features, or a 3D sculpture on the wall.

Affordability
Our drywall estimators are honest about our prices up front as per your space needs and any special requests. We work with you to help you stay on budget and get what you need. Depending on the level of finishing needed for your space or if its repairing damaged drywall the cost is going to vary.

It is important to consider the building codes for your residential area as well. Various types of boards have different features as well such as added levels of insulation your home and assisting to lower your energy bills. They are not recommended as a substitute for insulation.

Drywall Knife: This is an essential tool for a drywaller. Without this tool, it would be impossible to apply mud across seams and joints. It is made of either metal or plastic and comes in varying sizes, such as 6 – 12 inches.

A Pole Sander: A pole sander is used to sand hard to reach areas in the ceiling. It is much more efficient when compared to a sanding block, especially when sanding a large area.

Sanding Block: This is sandpaper wrapped up in a rectangular sponge. It has an abrasive grit and is used to smooth out hard to reach areas.

Sound Proofing Services

Is the sound in your home often too much? If this is the case, then you need to think about soundproofing. Soundproofing is done to block unwanted noise from either leaving or entering your property. Before we soundproof your property, we try first to understand the type of sound you require to be blocked. This will help us know the kind of soundproofing service required to fix the issue.

There are two ways in which sound can be blocked. These are:

  • Using a sound-absorbing material
  • Using a sound blocking material

A sound-absorbing material soaks up sound vibrations ensuring they do not bounce off again. On the other hand, a sound blocking material prevents sound energy from passing through it. Both have their advantages and disadvantages. Some types of drywall will help reduce the sound in your home.
